Au-delà du Mondial nord-américain, la Fédération anglaise verrouille son sélectionneur pour une échéance à domicile très attendue

Arrivé aux commandes de la sélection anglaise en janvier 2025, Thomas Tuchel avait initialement pour mandat principal la préparation et la participation à la Coupe du Monde 2026. Alors que cette échéance nord-américaine constitue le premier grand défi de son mandat, les dirigeants du football anglais ont décidé de revoir la temporalité de leur collaboration avec le technicien allemand pour l’inscrire dans la durée.

Selon les informations relayées par Hayters, l’ancien entraîneur de Chelsea a officiellement étendu son engagement contractuel avec la Fédération anglaise (FA). Ce nouveau bail dépasse désormais l’horizon du Mondial organisé aux États-Unis, au Mexique et au Canada, pour couvrir un cycle de deux années supplémentaires.

Cette prolongation garantit la présence de Thomas Tuchel sur le banc des Three Lions jusqu’à l’Euro 2028. Cette échéance revêt une importance stratégique particulière pour l’Angleterre, puisque le tournoi continental sera organisé à domicile, conjointement par le Royaume-Uni et la République d’Irlande. S’il honore ce contrat jusqu’à son terme, le sélectionneur dirigera l’équipe nationale lors de deux compétitions majeures consécutives.

Tuchel said: “I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England. It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup. It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.

“I have had so much support from Mark, all my colleagues at The FA and from fans wherever I go that I did not hesitate when asked to continue in this dream job. EURO 2028 will be a very special tournament and as a coach there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage.”

The FA CEO Mark Bullingham added: “I am delighted Thomas has committed to stay with us through to the EUROs in 2028. He was the right person for the job when he joined us for the World Cup campaign, and has only strengthened his reputation across the qualifiers. We know the players are right behind him, and the togetherness within the group is there for all to see.
